Best BitMEX Alternatives 2026 (Before the September Shutdown)
BitMEX is winding down. If you still have funds or open positions there, you have a real deadline to move. I compared 19 perpetual-futures exchanges on the things that actually matter, fees, leverage, inverse perps, KYC and where they are allowed, so you can pick a new home fast.
Reduce-only mode starts 26 Aug 2026. After that you cannot open new positions on BitMEX.
The deadline
Trading and all exchange services stop at 04:00 UTC on 23 September 2026. New positions are blocked from 26 August 2026.
Why it matters
Leftover balances of verified users face a monthly fee after closure (the greater of ~USD 50 or 1% a year). Withdrawing early avoids it.
What to do
Close positions, withdraw your funds, and open an account somewhere that fits how you trade. Start with the table below.

Which alternative fits how you trade?
You want no-KYC
Blofin is the cleanest no-KYC option (20k USDT/day) with inverse perps. Need a bigger ceiling? Bitunix goes far higher.
You are in the US
BTCC is the rare venue here that still accepts US traders, backed by a US FinCEN registration. Most others block the US. UK traders: BTCC restricts the UK, so look at Blofin or KuCoin. Check your local rules.
You want copy trading
Bitget runs the largest copy-trading marketplace. It requires KYC, so weigh that against the no-KYC options.
You trade a lot of alts
MEXC lists the widest range of perps here, with a 0% maker and 0.02% taker base fee.
You need real inverse perps
BitMEX's signature was coin-margined swaps. Blofin, BTCC, Bitget, MEXC, Bitunix and KuCoin all keep them. More on that below.
You want fully on-chain
Hyperliquid settles perps on its own chain with no signup, though it is USDC-margined with no inverse contracts.
The inverse-perp question BitMEX traders actually care about
BitMEX invented the inverse (coin-margined) perpetual swap, where you post BTC as margin and settle in BTC rather than a stablecoin. Plenty of traders moved to BitMEX specifically for that, and not every "alternative" still offers it.
In this comparison, Blofin, BTCC, Bitget, MEXC, Bitunix, KuCoin, Bybit, HTX, CoinEx, XT, Gate.io and Deribit keep inverse or coin-margined contracts in some form. KCEX, WEEX, WhiteBIT and Hyperliquid are stablecoin-margined only. If coin-margined trading is the reason you used BitMEX, start with the first group.
How to withdraw from BitMEX and move on
None of this is complicated, but the timing matters. Here is the order I would do it in.
- Close or reduce your open positions. From 26 August 2026 you cannot open new ones, and anything still open at closure is force-closed for you. Doing it yourself keeps you in control of the price.
- Pick where you are going first. Open and verify your new account before you move funds, so there is no gap. Use the comparison table to match an exchange to how you trade. If you are unsure, Blofin is the low-friction default.
- Withdraw your balance from BitMEX. BitMEX stays in a withdrawal-only mode after closure, but leftover balances of verified users start accruing a monthly fee. Withdraw well before the deadline to avoid it.
- Send to the right network. Withdraw to a network your new exchange supports (for USDT, that usually means matching TRC-20, ERC-20 or another chain on both sides). A wrong network can lose the funds.
- Fund and place a small test trade. Once your deposit lands, run one small order to confirm fees, margin mode and the interface behave the way you expect before you size up.
Watch for phishing. A shutdown is prime time for scammers. BitMEX will not ask for your password or seed phrase, and there is no "migration portal" that needs your login. Only ever act from the address you already know, and verify any exchange link before entering credentials.
How we compare, and why you can trust the numbers
Every figure here comes from the exchange's own fee schedule, docs and Proof-of-Reserves pages, plus public data and current user reports, gathered in July 2026. Where a number could not be verified, it is left blank rather than guessed. Leverage caps, fees and country access move around, so we treat this as a starting point and always link you to check the live details.
We earn a referral commission if you open an account with some of these exchanges, which is how the site is funded. It does not change the order. Bitget requiring KYC and Blofin sitting at the top are honest calls from the data, and several strong venues here carry no referral link at all. BitMEX shutdown FAQ
Is BitMEX really shutting down?
Yes. HDR Global Trading Limited, which operates BitMEX, has said the exchange closes on 23 September 2026 at 04:00 UTC after a strategic review. Trading ends; your account stays open only to view balances and withdraw.
Can I still trade on BitMEX right now?
For now, yes. But BitMEX switches to reduce-only mode on 26 August 2026 at 04:00 UTC, so no new positions after that. Remaining positions get force-closed, and anything open at the 23 September closure is force-closed then.
What happens to my funds and open positions?
Open positions are force-closed by closure time. Your balance stays withdrawable afterwards in a withdrawal-only mode, but BitMEX has said leftover balances of verified users face a monthly fee (the greater of about USD 50 or 1% a year). Withdrawing before the deadline avoids that.
Can US or UK traders use these alternatives?
It depends, and you must check your own local law first. Most offshore derivatives venues block US users, and several block the UK too. In our research BTCC was the rare exception that still accepts US traders, though it restricts the UK, while Blofin and KuCoin serve the UK but not the US. This is general information, not legal or financial advice.
Do these still offer inverse (coin-margined) perps?
Many do, including Blofin, BTCC, Bitget, MEXC, Bitunix, KuCoin, Bybit and HTX. A few are stablecoin-margined only: KCEX, WEEX, WhiteBIT and Hyperliquid. If coin-margined trading is why you used BitMEX, stick to the first group.
Which BitMEX alternative is best?
For most people leaving BitMEX we rate Blofin first: no-KYC up to 20,000 USDT a day, inverse and USDT perps to 150x, and a clean record. Your best pick still depends on priorities, whether that is US access (BTCC), copy trading (Bitget) or the widest alt selection (MEXC).
